How to Get Rid of Fruit Flies

We all Hate Fruit Flies

Fruit flies are common creatures to be found in your house, restaurants, grocery stores or any other place where there is food, whether it is for cooking, raw or even rotten food waste. Prevention is the most suitable way to get rid of fruit flies for instance by disposing of bad fruits, vegetables and other foods before they become overripe and begin to decay.

Besides that, you must ensure that cooked foods are stored in an appropriate place such as the fridge within containers with air-tight lids.  This is to ensure that our foods are secured tightly so that no fruit flies will be able to gain access or even get a sniff of the goods.

Below are some affordable ways for you to get rid of fruit flies.

What You Need To Remove this Horrible Insect:

  • Clean used cans with soap and water
  • Sealed bags
  • Flytrap
  • Small amount of red wine
  • Plastic wrap
  • Banana or apple cider vinegar
  • 500 mls milk
  • 115 g raw sugar
  • 55 g ground pepper
  • Saucepan
  • Shallow dish
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • Liquid dishwashing detergent
  • Cup
  • Water
  • Diluted lemongrass oil
  • 55 ml of hot water
  • Spray container
  • Fly strip

      1. First thing that you must ensure is to clean all your soda and beer cans using soap and water before putting them into a sealed bag because fruit flies love beer and soda.
      2. You can make a flytrap by using a small amount of red wine in a shallow dish then covering it with a plastic wrap before stretching and holding it with a rubber band. Next step is to pierce some holes on the cover. Flies are attracted to the smell of wine and you can also use banana or apple cider vinegar if you do not like to use wine.
      3. Another way is to mix 1 pint milk, 1/4 lb raw sugar and 2 ounces ground pepper into a saucepan before simmering them for at least 8 to 10 minutes. After that, pour them into a shallow dish and wait for the flies to attack the dish and suffocate them within minutes. This may sound cruel, but it is not as cruel as what these fruit flies can do to us.
      4. You can also mix a 1/4 cup white vinegar and liquid dishwashing detergent into a cup and slowly add some water until you see bubbles up reaching the top of the cup. Once the fruit flies see the cup, it will attack it and then get itself trapped inside it.
      5. Use Diluted lemongrass oil (10 drops) together with two ounces of hot water to spray your house. This method cannot kill just fruit flies, but also spiders, ants or other creepy crawlers.
      6. Use a fly strip and hang them with both sides exposed to flies where in the end they will stick to the trap and die.
